Great start to the Australian Open

Writing to you live from Day 1 of the Australian Open.  The last of the day session matches are just wrapping up and we had some real excitement early on (and by early on, I mean 8:30am when I listened to the Patriots victory over the internet).  Federer was challenged in the first set, as Phau actually served for it, before Federer decided to start trying and completely dismantled his opponent.  Both Roddick and Bagdhatis were challenged (by Tsonga and Schuettler, respectively) before winning in 4 sets.  Mauresmo played young American Shenay Perry, who put up a fight before losing 6-3, 6-4.  As I write, Mardy Fish has just taken the second set from 4th seeded Ivan Ljubicic to even things up at a set a piece.  The American men have really had quite a day, with Roddick, Amer Delic, Vince Spadea and Zack Fleishman all advancing to the second round.  American woman Jill Craybas played a great match against 10th seeded Nicole Vaidisova but came up short losing in 3 sets.  Should be another great day tomorrow with James Blake taking on Carlos Moya, a rematch from the Sydney final, which Blake won, that took place just 3 days ago!  Will report back tomorrow after another great day of tennis, and hopefully I will have some great photos to post as well.
