Sony Ericsson Day 9

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Well, I got half my picks right yesterday, as both Williams & Peer advanced to the semifinals.  However, both my Men’s picks were wrong.  Roddick retired midway through the first set against Murray with a hamstring injury, something that definitely puts him in doubt for next weekend’s Davis Cup against Spain.  In the featured night match, Djokavic got his revenge on Rafa beating him in straight sets after losing to him 10 days prior in the Pacific Life Open final.  The match of the day might have been the Bryans vs. Waske/Pavel, as the Bryans were down the entire 3rd set supertiebreaker, but managed to squeak by 10-8 after a couple of untimely double faults from Pavel.  Here are the rest of the results: (more…)

Sony Ericsson Day 8

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Sorry I missed out on posting yesterday, but I actually got to watch a whole lot of tennis yesterday, as well as play some Beach Tennis, loads of fun. It was kids day yesterday as well, so my head was pounding. Some great matches yesterday, capped off by the Canas/Federer match. I guess my prediction was wrong, as Canas took Federer out for a second straight time. Federer had this match won, when he had two break points to go up two breaks in the third set, but ended up falling in a thrilling tiebreaker. The much talked about Sharapova/Serena Williams match turned out to be a dud, as Serena took Sharapova to school 6-1, 6-1 in under an hour. Here are the rest of the results: (more…)

Sony Ericsson Day 6

Monday, March 26th, 2007

The first set of matches are ending today, and qualifier Amer Delic just upset Davydenko in straight sets. No real major upsets yesterday, and the match of the day belonged to Sharapova/Venus Williams. It wasn’t exactly pretty at times, with 91 total unforced errors (55 for Williams) and 25 double faults, but it was exciting and Sharapova prevailed 7-5 in the 3rd. Hingis fell in 3 sets a young Polish girl, Agnieszka Radwanska. Here are the rest of the results: (more…)

Sony Ericsson Day 5

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

UPDATE: 2:30 PM - Just returned from watching a few matches. Kendrick started off pretty even with Andy Murray, but ended up getting decimated 3 and 1. Murray’s change of pace, along with the wind, was not a good matchup for Kendrick. Hingis also fell in a three setter. The highlight of my day was sitting at court 10 for 20 minutes after Sharapova finished practicing on a tip that Federer might be up next. Sure enough, he was and I was right next to the court. I watched him for about 20 minutes before I realized he is a pretty talented individual. (more…)

Sony Ericsson Day 4

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

Finally, a full day of tennis yesterday, with only a quick rain shower delaying play for 5 minutes. Some great tennis was played, with the best match probably being on the Grandstand between Marat Safin and Feliciano Lopez. Lopez won 5 and 6, in a minor upset. Also winning were Nadal, Roddick, and Fernando Gonsalez. Hewitt pulled out, allowing American Robert Kendrick back into the draw after losing in the qualifying (and he was victorious to boot), and Bagdhatis fell as well. Over on the Women’s side, Henin, Clisters, and Hantuchova (last week’s winner) all moved on. Here are the rest of the results: (more…)
