Sony Ericsson Day 9
Well, I got half my picks right yesterday, as both Williams & Peer advanced to the semifinals. However, both my Men’s picks were wrong. Roddick retired midway through the first set against Murray with a hamstring injury, something that definitely puts him in doubt for next weekend’s Davis Cup against Spain. In the featured night match, Djokavic got his revenge on Rafa beating him in straight sets after losing to him 10 days prior in the Pacific Life Open final. The match of the day might have been the Bryans vs. Waske/Pavel, as the Bryans were down the entire 3rd set supertiebreaker, but managed to squeak by 10-8 after a couple of untimely double faults from Pavel. Here are the rest of the results:
Singles

Andy Murray (12), Britain, def. Andy Roddick (3), United States, 5-3, retired.
Novak Djokovic (10), Serbia, def. Rafael Nadal (2), Spain, 6-3, 6-4.

Bob and Mike Bryan (2), United States, def. Andrei Pavel, Romania, and Alexander Waske, Germany, 7-6 (4), 6-7 (6), 10-8 tiebreak.
Fabrice Santoro, France, and Nenad Zimonjic (5), Serbia and Montenegro, def. Paul Hanley, Australia, and Kevin Ullyett (4), Zimbabwe, 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 tiebreak.
Women
Second Round
Emilie Loit, France, and Nicole Pratt, Australia, def. Svetlana Kuznetsova and Nadia Petrova, Russia, 6-1, 6-3.
Quarterfinals
Cara Black, Zimbabwe, and Liezel Huber (2), South Africa, def. Dinara Safina, Russia, and Tatiana Golovin, France, 6-4, 6-3.
Daniela Hantuchova, Slovakia, and Martina Hingis, Switzerland, def. Mara Santangelo, Italy, and Bryanne Stewart, Australia, 6-1, 6-2.
At this point, since this will be my last post live from Miami, I’ll make my final predictions. I think Djokavic will take down Murray in the semi’s, and end up playing Ljubicic in the finals, with Djokavic taking home the title. On the women’s side, look for Serena to take down Henin in an epic final match. As far as today goes, terrific battle should ensue between Guillermo Canas and Tommy Robredo, a grindfest if I’ve ever heard of one. For updated results and the rest of the schedule, click here.
