The third-ranked French woman had been suffering a stomach ache for a few days and postponed her planned trip to the United States in order to undergo exams.
Medical tests revealed an inflammation of the appendix. Mauresmo's surgery "went well", according to Mauresmo's official web site.
The two-time Grand Slam champion has posted a 13-4 record on the season. Mauresmo beat Kim Clijsters to claim the Proximus Diamond Games championship in February. She fell to top-seeded Justine Henin, 6-4, 7-5, in last month's Dubai final. Mauresmo skipped last week's Indian Wells tournament to train for Miami, but will not make the trip to the States as she recovers from surgery.
