Ernesto Escobedo

Ernesto "Neto" Escobedo began playing tennis at age four. The young Neto idolized in the likes of Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal. Good ones to follow! He turned pro in 2014, and 2017 was his breakout year. He achieved career-high rankings nine times that year (!), peaking at No. 67 in July, following his Wimbledon debut. 

Neto is coached by none other than one of our Maui Fantasy Camp Pros, and former legend himself, Jan-Michael Gambill. If Neto wasn’t a tennis player, he says he would be an NFL quarterback. His favorite quarterback is Tony Romo.

Neto is currently ranked ATP 181.

Marcos Giron

  • 30 years old

Marcos started hitting tennis balls at age six in a local park with him mom. His idols growing up included Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and Roger Federer. At UCLA he captured 2014 NCAA singles title before turning pro.

2019 marked many first's for Marcos. He began the season by earning his first ATP Challenger Tour title in his first final at Orlando. Highlights that year also include a third round run at BNP Paribas Open, a Masters 1000 event, as well as qualifying at both Wimbledon and the US Open. At Wimbledon, he went down in the first round to Feliciano Lopez.  

Marcos is currently ranked a career-high ATP No. 102 and has been a strong force in our Matchplay 120 series with wins over Steve Johnson (ATP 63) and Ernesto Escobedo (ATP 181), among others. He currently sits in fourth position on our men's leaderboard, out of all qualified players. 

Steve Johnson

“Stevie” began playing tennis at age 2 by using balloons and beach balls. It must have done the trick, because by the time he finished his collegiate career at University of Southern California, he had swept NCAA team titles in all 4 seasons and won 2 NCAA singles titles. He finished 2011 and 2012 as No. 1 college player and 72 straight singles wins.

Stevie is currently ranked ATP No. 63, off his career high of No. 21 in 2016.

Zachary Svajda

A native of San Diego, Zach began playing tennis at age two. In the relatively short time since, he has made quite a splash on the tennis world.

His accolades include earning his first ATP World Tour ranking point at the age of 15. The following year he won the USTA Boys' 18s national championship, which earned the 16-year-old a wild card into the main draw of the 2019 US Open. He is the youngest player to play in the men's draw of the US Open since 2005.

Zach is currently ranked ATP No. 945, but we see that changing once the pro tournaments begin again.

Leylah Fernandez

Canadian teenager Leylah Fernandez climbed nearly 100 spots in the WTA rankings to begin 2020, bolstered by a win over Sloane Stephens in March at her second-ever WTA event. She is currently ranked at No. 118.

Leylah loves puzzles and desserts, in particular Rubiks Cubes and molten lava chocolate cake, respectively. :)

Jennifer Brady

Jennifer Brady is currently ranked just shy of her career-high 45, at WTA No. 48. She's reached the Round of 16 at both the Australian Open and the US Open (both in 2017). This year, she beat Svitolina and Muguruza in Dubai.

Brady's idols growing up were Justine Henin and Lleyton Hewitt.

Caroline Dolehide

  • 21 years old

Caroline began playing tennis at age 5 in her hometown suburb of Chicago. Her debut on the WTA tour came in 2016. 2018 turned into a breakout year for her starting at the BNP. There, as a wild card into the main draw, she had a second-round victory over No. 30 Dominika Cibulkova. In the next round, she pushed world No. 1 Simona Halep to three sets. She also made it to the first round of Wimbledon and the US Open that year, as well as the second round of the French Open, her best result at a Grand Slam.

Caroline is currently ranked WTA 134, down from a career high of 102 after her banner year in 2018. Caroline is arguably as strong a doubles player, having advanced to the 2019 US Open semifinals.

Caroline has been a dominant force in our series and is currently third on our leaderboard with six matches completed. However, she is ranked first out of all qualified (5+ matches) players!

Jamie began hitting tennis balls at age five with her mother, a tennis instructor, and her first coach. By the age of 11 she was competing in national tournaments. She trained at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, where on occasion she hit with the legend.

Loeb attended the University of North Carolina where she was the first singles national champion in UNC women's tennis history. After she won the national championship, the Village and Town of Ossining, where she grew up, declared August 3 to be Jamie Loeb Day. After completing her sophomore year, she decided to join the WTA tour. 

She is currently ranked WTA 278, down from a career high of 132 in 2018. Her best result at a major has been the first round of the US Open in 2015.

Mackenzie McDonald

“Mackie” is currently ranked at a career-high ATP No. 271 in singles; his career-high in doubles is No. 193. He finished his 2016 college season as the No.1 singles and doubles player in the nation.

McDonald started tennis at age three with his father; since then, he's earned over $1.3 million in career prize money. Good idea, dad!
